Our Mission

The Mission of the Dunmore Historical Society, a non-profit and educational organization, is to collect, preserve, and interpret the artifacts, archives, and bibliographic materials of the social, cultural, and economic history of Northeastern Pennsylvania and particularly the Borough of Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

Your support by becoming a member  enables us to have a home of our own where donated memorabilia and archived historical documents can be viewed and shared with our community.

It enables us to keep Dunmore’s rich past alive by sponsoring educational and historical presentations; and providing newsletters and a website to bring this information to those near and far.

In 2013, volunteers made great progress in our mission to preserve and share Dunmore’s history.

Here is our project wish list for this year

  1. Classification of our holdings: need people with knowledge of Dunmore’s historic people and places.
  2.  Digital archiving: record and scan items into computer inventory. Basic PC skills.
  3. Photo archiving: Basic skills w/ digital camera to photograph items too big to be scanned.
  4. .Facebook relations – share events, photos and historical facts 1-2 times a week with all our Facebook fans.
