Dunmore Historical Society
Mission: Collect, preserve, and interpret the artifacts, archives, and bibliographic materials of the history of the Borough of Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
Almost every Saturday morning we meet to plan, organize, educate, inventory, publicize, and preserve the artifacts in our care.
Stop by any time between 9am and noon on Saturday's, weather pending.
Programs: The Society held a number entertaining and informative programs including History of the Avanti Cigar Company, Mining in NEPA, Coal Mining and Urban Development, PA Gravity Railroads, “Like Leaves in a Storm” book signing, and Widows’ Wanderings. Research: Our volunteers handled over 50 research requests connecting people to their past. Preservation: We made significant progress on organizing and filing our holdings, and continued upkeep and improvements on the Barton St property, including landscaping. Access and enjoyment: We now have regular public hours at our building on Saturday mornings; and added signage and benches to the Dunmore Nature Trail.
None of this could have bee done without the help of members, volunteers and community partners such as Boy Scout Troop 66, the Dearly Departed Players, Dunmore Borough, and Riccardo's Market.
